Message from President Cordelia Anthony

Dear Members,

I hope this message finds you well. As we enter this season of gratitude, I want to once again applaud all that you do each and every day for the Farmingdale community and our students. Poet, activist, and educator June Jordan once wrote, “I know of nothing more important, more difficult, and more purely loving than the nurture of children, be it as a parent, a teacher, or as an artist wishing to serve them well.” Your work reflects that truth—and it makes a profound difference in the lives of the young people we serve.

While this time of year brings excitement, joy, and anticipation for the holidays and the new year, it can also be challenging for many. Shorter days, feelings of loss, and/or the absence of loved ones can weigh heavily on many of us. In those moments, try to pause and intentionally recall positive experiences—focus on the feelings they brought, and give yourself a chance to truly savor them.

If you or someone you know needs additional support, please remember that the NYSUT Peer Support Line is available to connect you with a trained peer specialist. You can call toll-free at 844-444-0152, Monday through Friday, noon to 8 p.m. (EST).

The holidays offer a valuable opportunity to rest, recharge, and reconnect with the people and traditions that bring us joy. I hope you find time for peace, laughter, and maybe even a few days free from email, lesson plans, or alarm clocks.

And as always, remember: our strength as a union comes from our unity, our advocacy, and the unwavering support we offer one another. I am truly grateful to stand with you—not only as colleagues, but as partners in this important work. Wishing you a safe, joyful, and restorative holiday season. Here’s to health, hope, and continued solidarity in the new year ahead.
