Message from President Cordelia Anthony
Dear Members,
September always seems to arrive at full speed. Between new schedules, new students, changing routines, and everything else that comes with returning to work, I know this time of year can feel especially hectic. I want to take a moment to simply say thank you. Thank you for returning each workday ready to support your students and colleagues, and for continuing to bring professionalism, care, and commitment, even while managing everything happening in your own lives. I also want to express my sincere appreciation for your patience and continued support as we work through the final steps of completing and receiving a new MOA to present to you. I know everyone is eager to see this process brought to a close. Your patience while the necessary details are finalized has not gone unnoticed. We want to make sure that the work we have done at the bargaining table is accurately reflected and properly completed before everything is presented to you for a review and vote.
According to a September CDC report 72% of Americans reported feeling exhausted at least some days, with 17% experiencing frequent fatigue daily or most days. I believe that in our profession, where we put on so many hats to help our students daily, is probably amongst the highest in this common fatigue. I encourage you to take rest when needed, get as much sleep as you can, and ask for help whether you just need a break, need to talk to someone, or if you realize the fatigue connects mental health like anxiety or depression. As we settle into another school year, please remember that our union is strongest when we remain connected, informed, and supportive of one another. September may be busy, but we are getting through it together. Thank you for all that you do for our students, our schools, and one another. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15-10/15).
